The PBS Show Second Opinion recently had a panel discussion amongst doctors (the format of the show) about two different Alzheimer's cases. Read The Transcript Here (New Window)

The time to prepare for the future is at the earliest stage of a disease when the patient, the family and the healthcare team can plan together.

The show follows the story of two different individuals and their families through the oddesy of long term care of an Alzheimer's patient. One man who was taking care of his wife stated this:

"Well, one of the first things is to early on in their life, even before there's any indication, if it's in the family, get a long-term care policy - insurance."

This is coming from someone who is living with this issue. It is a great show about Alzheimer's disease and about planning for long term care in general. Martha Vineyard's Times Long Term Care Insurance Article

by Brandon 18. August 2009 07:02

Susan Silk of the Martha Vineyard's Times has written an excellent article on Baby Boomers and Long Term Care Insurance . Read It Here (New Window)

For Most Baby Boomers, Long Term Care Insurance Is An Option .

Susan's article focuses mainly on individuals and their personal stories. The first thing that caught my attention was this sentence from that story:

"According to U.S government data, this year 9 million American men and women over the age of 65 will need long-term care."

It then goes on to tell how long-term care insurance may not be right for everybody, but it is very useful for most. What I really enjoyed was the real world examples of people that had ltc policies and were spared a lot of trouble by having them.
